Description

This is a first result of my yearly astroweek getaway with friends in the south of France. More to come ;)

This rendition shows an interesting area, north of Deneb, with Sh2-120, Sh2-121, lots of LDN's and a peculiar star. See if you can spot the star, 1/3rd to the top and 1/3rd to the left of the frame. It has a ring structure around it. The star is called V1331Cyg. What makes this star special is the fact that astronomers look almost exactly at one of its poles. Usually, the view of a young star is obscured by the dust from the circumstellar disc and the envelope that surround it. However, with V1331Cyg astronomers are actually looking in the exact direction of a jet driven by the star that is clearing the dust.
